Flood…RAIN…MONSOON…DID I MOVE IN MY SLEEP?

June 27th, 2006 by pavcrawphan

It would appear that I have moved to the jungles of South America while I was sleeping.  The monsoon/rains have bombarded the D.C. region, shutting down the government.  However, I have to admit it doesn’t take much to do that down here, given the d.c. area closes for an inch of snow or even a little squabble between Republicans and Democrats.  It’s a bit sunny right now, but I doubt that will last long given the rain that came 30 seconds after I saw the sun pop out of the clouds yesterday.  Now, we’re getting a taste of that Massachusetts weather they had up there a bit ago.  Floods even, though it also doesn’t take much to flood this place given the swamp that it’s built on.

Dcfloods

So, my question about this photo is why on earth, seeing the river/lake in front of you, would you insist on trying to drive through it?  It’s not like this is an amphibious vehicle…by any stretch of the imagination.  A bit silly, don’t you think?  Well, I guess that shows just how educated the d.c. region really is, nevermind that study that indicated d.c. had the most highly educated concentration of people in the entire country….bunch of hogwash I say…probably a bunch of d.c. retards misinterpretting the data, which really indicated that d.c. had the lowest educated population in the nation…but i digress.

Axlerose Remember this guy?  LOL there is a recent story in the news about him…guess he isn’t dead yet or overdosing on drugs somewhere.  The article should not surprise anyone…but I say let the man eat, he was probably hungry!  LOL  I’m kidding of course.  I have to blog about something other than the horrid commutes and rainy weather and the part-time job I have a really hard time continuing on with.  I really want to just curl up today in my bed and sleep it away, especially when I have writers here that fail to tell me when they are on vacation and I have to do twice as much work and am ill-prepared to do so given the gloomy state of things around here.

On a brigher note, I will be having a wonderful cookout experience in the rain with friends on Sunday…lol although who the heck wants to cookout in the rain, but you never know, it could clear up by then…let’s keep our fingers crossed for that possibility.  Really what I need is a long vacation. :)

When to Quit Your Part-Time Job…

June 23rd, 2006 by pavcrawphan

1. when it is no longer a fun environment
2. when you remain underappreciated
3. when you are underpaid and continually expected to take on more responsibility because everyone else in the store is a moron or too lazy
4. when you would rather punch your boss when he greets you than shake his hand
5. when you no longer think the discounts are enough to keep you motivated
6. when the people hired are those that have been fired or let go previously for malfeasance and yet the retailer contends that they are still good enough to rehire.
7. when your boss doesn’t even like to show up to work
8. when the most reliable person other than yourself calls in sick
9. when even the littlest comment from a customer could send you over the edge
10. when you just are too damn tired to do anything else but sleep

I swear I have done this before…

But perhaps I have not posted it on either blog.  Well here are the results of the quiz:

You Are Midnight

You are more than a little eccentric, and you’re apt to keep very unusual habits.
Whether you’re a nightowl, living in a commune, or taking a vow of silence - you like to experiment with your lifestyle.
Expressing your individuality is important to you, and you often lie awake in bed thinking about the world and your place in it.
You enjoy staying home, but that doesn’t mean you’re a hermit. You also appreciate quality time with family and close friends.

Cookout Fun…

June 12th, 2006 by pavcrawphan

Saturday was a bore given that Cris worked in the morning and then I worked in the afternoon, but it’s all good because we had just enough time to marinate some drumsticks, get the laundry done, prepare the rest of the cookout food, and watch a bit of tv over our dinner of corn on the cob.  Yes, you heard it here, all we ate was corn on the cob.  Although we also did get out for a bit and take charlee to the local dog park, which was a disaster.  He was more interested in sniffing the people and getting their attention than playing with the dogs or sniffing their butts…it was a sad night for socialization.

Sunday was great fun, though it got off to a slow start.  Though everyone should have been at our house around 1-1:30pm, the cookout really didn’t start until about 2pm…no worries though, we all had a great time.  The food was good, though the fire kept going out, and everyone was chatty.  Jamie reprised his role as the entertainment for the group by riding a "bucking panda" in the adjacent children’s playground, whilst flailing his beer about and nearly spilling the beer all over himself.  Though the next contestant in the bucking panda riding contest, Cris, my husband, failed to save his beer from the ground and his shirt.  That was quite entertaining.  The two entertainers were at it again.  And the one enlightening thing we all learned on Sunday was that Jamie knows his species and his sex; thank goodness because we were all beginning to wonder.

Victoria brought along Daisy who tried to teach Charlee that it was not polite to hump her on the first date nor the second.  Unfortunately, Charlee did not learn a thing and was brought inside shortly thereafter eating an entire bag of chips the wind blew over.  He got a lot of treats he wasn’t supposed to have that day, though I have to say I’m glad to see that Charlee was actually going after a dog of his own species and a female dog at that…rather than Jamie’s leg for instance.  I don’t think Charlee humped Jamie the entire time he was hanging out with us all.  Thank goodness for him.

Cookies, smoothies, coffee and poetry

June 9th, 2006 by pavcrawphan
THIS IS A CROSS-POSTING FROM MY YAHOO BLOG:

It
all began with a text message…a laughing fit, well not a fit, a
laughing moment, a roundtrip shuttle ride around AU’s campus and an
offer to eat half a cookie. What a crazy afternoon?!

The
plan, a poetry meetup in D.C. at Breakwell’s Coffee on M Street, got
there too early, but we ordered an Italian sandwich with a spinach wrap
and it was delicious…all homemade, none of that premade food that
seems to frequent cafes in the d.c. area. Some strong ice coffee and a
peach and raspberry smoothie, complete with real peaches at the bottom.

The orange, maybe peachish walls were so warm and inviting, and the
decor was fabulous. what a cozy little shop…great place for meeting
like-minded poets and artists…we’re expecting to meet again once per
month on the first Thursday of the month around 6pm. reading work and
offering advice or comments in a casual format….lots of coffee
drinking…pastry…and sandwiches…should be great fun. I’m looking
forward to it.

Now, I have to get into a fiction group just like it…at least one night per week.  Gotta get back in the swing!

by the way, the vegan cookie…finally eaten by the person trying to get rid of it.

Duck

What do you see here in this duck xray?

The latest news report claims it is an alien head, but couldn’t it be a dollhead…isn’t that the more likely answer given humanity’s bent on pollution and leaving our trash lying about?  Wouldn’t that make the most sensible answer? Well, it would, but it certainly wouldn’t make any headlines or news.

Breakfast in Bed…or Ice Cream?

June 5th, 2006 by pavcrawphan

This weekend was too busy for my liking…too many jobs to work on and too little time to relax and take a nap or two.

I have to declare that this coming weekend will be wrought with cookout fun and ice cream…and maybe breakfast in bed?  Hmm, can you wish it and make it true? perhaps some of this blogging and thinking will filter to through the air to my husband and he will gladly jump on the bandwagon to cook me breakfast while I sleep dreaming of syrupy French toast and bacon…crispy bacon.

Ok Maybe I’m just really hungry this morning…lol I didn’t have breakfast, unless you count coffee.   What’s worse is that I am limiting myself to one cup per day…OMYGOODNESS>..Did i just say that?

Jolly Rancher Fix

May 30th, 2006 by pavcrawphan

Before I get into today’s posting, I want to know what the heck this means: (it came from an article regarding Robertson’s ability to leg press 2,000 pounds)

"CBN spokeswoman Angell Vasko said Friday that Robertson was not available for comment because he was "out of pocket" for the long holiday weekend."

I have never heard that terminology before and will probably never hear it again after this but you know how it goes.

Onto the post:

So I was caught red-handed with a kid’s tropicana juice today–100% juice supposedly, though the entire carbohydrate content was sugar.  Anyway, I’ve discovered that Fruit Punch from this brand name manufacturer actually tastes like Jolly Ranchers.  Now whether these two firms are related I have no idea and don’t plan to find out.  No I did not steal the juice from a kid and nor do I have a kid that it belongs to…I am just categorizing it as an atypical adult drink or typical kid’s drink.  :)

So now, I am addicted to these little drinks, which are probably no more healthy for me than soda, and yet I will drink them all of the time as if I am on a health kick….hmm somehow I don’t think this bodes well for me loosing weight that I have gained in the past year…ah well…they taste good and have a great sugar rush to follow after you drink them!

DARK PHOENIX…

Ah the XMEN RULE…well one in particular…I can’t gush enough about Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of my favorite character from the comic book series… Wolverine…ah werewolves…wolverines, Jackman surely gets around doesn’t he…and it’s funny because he has a scene in the latest movie of the XMEN that resembles an end scene in Van Helsing.  I wonder if the movie producers choose him for his dramatic flare.

"Mr. Jackman, now in this scene, we would like you to repeat that drama at the end of Van Helsing."
"No problem."

But the best part of those scenes are not only his ability to be dramatic, but also the fact that he always seems to be shirtless and buff! OK…I really only have one thing on my mind where he is concerned don’t I?! I have the same problem with George Clooney as well…

I hope this is not the last stand for the XMEN because there is so much more to be shown of the comic book series.

For now enough procrastinating…I have to get back to work unfortunately :(  And then I get to work at the camera shop tomorrow…joy of all joys.Img_1161

Wedding Bliss

May 25th, 2006 by pavcrawphan

Now, I do not pretend to be a wedding expert and each couple does have their own ideas about how to celebrate their nuptials, but there are certain traditions that stand out, especially when they are not present.  For instance, my cousin recently got married, at age 19, and they did not have a receiving line at the end of the ceremony, which by the way was all backward and screwy to begin with…not to mention much quicker than my ceremony, which was pretty quick by many standards.

Some of these inside the church photos are very dark, but again church lighting is bad for little point and shoot cameras with very small flashes…lets hope the photographer stays true to her word and emails the photo link to me so I can get some really good shots for the scrapbook I am making for Katie.  Alas, she may not deserve it or even want it, but that’s my gift to her and she better like it…LOL

Img_1228
This is a nice one of the bride in all her glory, but I really like the detail on her dress which you cannot see in this photo.  I will have to post that one next.  Now every family has drama and mine is no different…Katie has a sister who was not in the wedding party (she actually has 2 sisters) but her full sister (not half sister) was asked to be the maid of honor and then promptly discarded when Katie resumed her friendship with the current maid of honor…now why you ask couldn’t her sister be in the wedding party as well…I have no answer for you and there may be another side to this story, but I really don’t care enough to find out I’m afraid.  LOL the drama on this side of the family is nothing new and will probably last until they all die off…which is probably unlikely.

Here is the detailed photo of Katie’s dress…its very well beaded and intricate.
Very pretty indeed and Katie looked like a fairy tale princess…like all brides should at least once.
Img_1230
I think that all other members of the family should be banished from marriage
for at least 12 months…I’m tired of the travel and in my family you can’t not show
up to their weddings because they all came to yours…what a pain.  LOL
Friends are also banished from marrying for 12 months as well since I am too
poor to continue traveling back and forth unless they feel like holding their nuptials down here in the D.C. area…i’m all for that…have the rest of the world travel here. :)

One last wedding phot for you all to view…its a great shot of my cousin, katie, her husband, marcus, and my grandparents.  And yes, marcus will be heading to Iraq next month…good luck my man.  If he’s anything like our friend Rob, he will love it there and make a repeat trip…who knows.
